Tiger Pride

From Tallassee City Schools
Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Varner

Sunday night a water line burst underneath the sidewalk at Southside Middle School, raising the question of whether or not we would be able to have school on Monday.  In a small town like Tallassee, one would think that the resources available to repair such a breakdown late at night on a Sunday would be very limited.  I would argue, however, that our best resources in this town are our people!

Allen Meadows, a dedicated asset to the district, responded as he is often asked to do on nights and weekends.  Doobie Hyde, as he often does in many school projects, also contributed until the problem was fully resolved.  Mayor Payne didn’t go home until after midnight when the job was complete and he was sure we could have school Monday morning.

And then there are the City employees – James, Troy and Kelvin – whose expertise, professionalism, and work ethic were responsible for getting the job completed.  Not one complaint was uttered as they worked tirelessly to remedy the situation.  Without these three men, many people’s schedules would have been disrupted by the close on Southside on Monday.

Tallassee is blessed with willing people who attack problems with a resolve and a positive attitude.  They repeatedly step up to the plate when there is a job that needs doing, even when it’s not their responsibility to do so.  Many times their service goes seemingly unnoticed or unappreciated, but the reality is that our schools, our community, and our society would falter without dedicated people willing to accept any challenge.  People with a “That’s not my job” attitude can often cripple the effectiveness and efficiency of an organization.  Fortunately, that’s not the prevalent attitude in Tallassee!

It’s a great time to be a Tallassee Tiger!
