Stonaker enters race for mayor

Hello, I am John Stonaker and I am excited to announce my candidacy for the position of mayor for the city of Tallassee. My wife, Debbie and I have owned and operated Game Day Clips in Tallassee for the past five years. I am also employed with the Tallassee Board of Education.

My daughter, Bailey Martin is married to Ryan Martin and they have made me the proud grandfather of Bentleigh Martin. Debbie and I are also the proud parents of our nine-month-old boy, Cash, stepdaughter Marie Coleman and foster parents of Matt Lynch and Bella Bruner, Debbie’s great nephew and niece. Debbie and I attend church at The Catalyst Community Church.

I am qualified to be your mayor because I carry with me 20 years of experience in retail with Wal-Mart, Inc. I began my career with Wal-Mart as a cart pusher here in Tallassee. I then was promoted to lost prevention. I ultimately ended up in Atlanta, Ga. where I was District Manager for the South End of Atlanta. During that tenure I was awarded Trainer of the Year and Store Manager of the Year, and worked with an operating budget which often exceeded $100 million.

I also served as your building inspector under the Bobby Payne administration and have served as president of the Tallassee Athletic Club, board member of the Tallassee Dixie Youth Baseball Board and past member of the Tallassee Babe Ruth Baseball Board. I have spent 20 years coaching the youth of Tallassee including wrestling, girls’ softball and Dixie Youth Baseball. If you have a child or grandchild in this community, there is a good chance I’ve coached them.

If elected mayor I will provide you with an honest and transparent administration.  I know what is important to the people of Tallassee. In Tallassee, we love our families, we love our community, we love our schools, we love our sports, and we demand to be treated fairly and with honesty. I will do everything within my power to ensure that these essential necessities remain at the core of my administration. My door will be open and my ear will be yours. My views and opinion are conservative when it comes to the taxpayers’ money and I intend to explore ways to improve our city services and facilities without passing the buck to you.

I am a firm believer in leaving a place better than you found it. I want to build a Tallassee that my nine-month-old son will be proud to call home and a place ready to accept anyone looking to live in a town that provides a good quality of life.

So, I am starting out my candidacy by reaching out to you, my friends, neighbors, and fellow citizens of Tallassee to ask for your endorsement, support, and most importantly your vote.

Thank you for your time and I greatly appreciate your consideration and support in this upcoming election.
