Parker and Levett medal at state

The Tallassee High School track team competed at the state track and field meet in Gulf Shores last weekend and brought back some medals.

The meet was highlighted by a couple THS hurdlers, Iyana Parker and Kalvin Levett. Parker finished with the bronze in the girls 100 meter hurdles and Levett finished with the bronze medal in the boys 110 meter hurdles. 

Levett competed in three other events finishing fourth in the triple jump, eighth in the 300 meter hurdles and ninth in the long jump.

Trent Cochran-Gill had a good showing in the javelin throwing 152’6 and finishing sixth overall.

The boys 4 x 100 meter relay team narrowly missed the finals finishing ninth overall, while the girls 4 x 100 meter relay team finished 11th overall. 

Armani Wilkerson ran a personal best 50.81 and finished tenth in the girls 300 meter hurdle event. 

Distance runners Woodrow Dean, Seleta Lawrence and Catherine Crawford had good efforst in their events as well. Eighth grader Chloe Baynes was unable to compete at state in her four events due to the area softball tournament. 

Head coach Danny Worley was pleased with the overall effort of the team. 

"There is some stiff competition at state, so you have to be ready." he said.

Worley was very complimentary of Parker in the hurdles. 

"She worked hard this year and ran a personal record 15.93 to win a medal," he added. "(She) was very very close to winning the gold. .05 of a second! What a race that was."

Overall, UMS-Wright took first in the girls standings. Tallassee was No. 26. Winfield was the boys' champ. Tallassee was No. 18.
