The Tallassee High School softball team swept the field as the top seed in the Class 5A/Area 5 Tournament at Southside last week.

Tallassee (31-11-4) locked in the No. 1 seed with a 6-0 area record during the regular season. The Tigers opened Thursday's action with an 8-6 win over No. 4 seed Beauregard and then blew out (No. 2) Brewbaker Tech 16-5 to advance to Friday's championship. A rematch against the Rams ended with a 7-6 Tigers' win.

"The girls played great," head coach Pat Love said. "We got down in two of the three games. They played with a lot of energy. We got great pitching and timely hitting all tournament. It was a great atmosphere. The team is focused on the next goal of finishing No. 1 or 2 at regionals."

Tallassee travels to the West Central Regional in Tuscaloosa this week. The top two teams in each of the four eight-team regionals advance to the state championships which move to Oxford this year.
