Tigers clinch area's top seed

It was a week of feats last week as Tallassee hit the high win mark for program history (now at 34) and reached a milestone in the state rankings (No. 2 in Class 5A).

The Tigers added the regular season area title to its accomplishments with an 8-0 win over Brewbaker Tech on Tuesday. The victory locks up the home field advantage for THS in the area tournament beginning on Friday, April 26.

In the victory over the Rams, Tallassee had 11 hits as a team. Bell Haynes led the way at the plate with three hits and four RBIs. Avary Lumpkin, Chloe Baynes and Jordan Walters had two hits each. Walters picked up the victory striking out six.

The junior varsity girls came from behind twice to defeat Brew Tech 7-5. Abby Davis hit her first homer and drove in three. The JV girls end their seson with a 19-7 record.

The varsity girls fell on Thursday to Prattville Christian 12-10 in a showdown of ranked teams. PCA is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A. The Beauregard Tournament scheduled for the weekend was canceled.

Just two regular season games remain, both on the road. The Tigers play Central Phenix City on Tuesday, April 23 and Auburn on Thursday, April 25 prior to the area tournament at Southside Park.
