6U girls win state

By Michael Butler

It's happened in back-to-back seasons, old hat you might say. Tallassee's 6U softball Tigers are state champions - again.

Tallassee hoisted the NSA State Championship trophy on Saturday in Alex City.

A few girls from last year's team moved up to 8U ball; however, three are repeat offenders in 6U. Those young ladies now have two rings.

Zadie Stephens, McCall Clayton and Kylie Taylor were on last year's championship squad and say it's even "sweeter" the second time around.

"We wound up 14-0," manager Ron Taylor said of the team's perfect record in all-star play.

Coach Adam Clayton was the pitcher in the coach-pitch games, which can be a bit nerve wracking at times.

"It is, especially when it's a real close game and you get down to the last inning. We got in that situation a couple of times," Clayton said. "The girls always came through."

Tallassee's victories on Saturday came against; Alex City 14-2, Chelsea 21-2 and Alex City again 16-7 for the championship.
