THS softball advances to regional

By Michael Butler

The Tallassee High School softball team is Troy bound. The eight-team South-Central Regional begins on Friday, May 11. The Tigers first assignment - defending state champion Northside (24-16) at 3:00.

"They've played some real good teams, some of the same teams we have," Tallassee head coach Pat Love said. "I don't think we're going to see anything that we haven't seen all year. The pitching that we've seen especially over the last month has been phenomenal."

The key to victory is simple, according to Love.

"If we give up one or less errors a game, we don't get beat. If we give up multiple errors, we always get beat. We're always playing against ourselves. As long as we execute we're doing pretty good."

Tallassee is one of four teams in the bracket ranked in the ASWA Class 4A poll. The Tigers (32-13) were No. 9 in the final regular season rankings. No. 3 ranked Holtville, who beat Tallassee for the Area 5 tournament championship is on the top side of the bracket.

"It would be nice to face Holtville again on Saturday morning at 10:30," said Love.

A rematch would mean the Tigers would start out with two victories. The top two teams in the regional advance to the state tournament next week at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

"I think we've really got a good chance. If we go down there and play our best ball I think we can be there."
