Humphery gets all-state recognition

By Michael Butler

Tallassee High School senior basketball player Jamicah Humphery (5-10/G) has been selected second-team all-state by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

The ASWA released its all-state teams for all classifications on Sunday with Humphery making the Class 5A list. It is the second time Humphery has been recognized.

Last year, Humphery was a third-team pick by the ASWA. He is the second player under coach Keiven Mixson to recieve all-state accolades. Tyrek Tuner was a third-team choice in 2019.

"Jamicah will go down as one of the greatest players in Tallassee history," Mixson said. "Jamicah has been blessed with a lot of natural talent, but the reason for all these accolades is the amount of time he has spent in the gym. I tell players all the time that how much time you spend in the gym and how hard you work in the gym on your game will directly affect how good of a player you will become. Jamicah has done this and now he is seeing the rewards."

Humphery averaged 22.2 points per game in his senior season with 5.6 rebounds, 6.1 assists and 4.2 steals per contest. He shot 81 percent from the free throw line and connected on 59 three-point shots. For his career, he scored 1,263 total points and hit 176 three-pointers.

Humphery's highest single-game ouput came in the Tigers' 86-80 sub-regional win over No. 3 Talladega. He scored 53 points.

"Jamicah put on probably one of the top performances in the history of Tallassee basketball," Mixson said after the game in February. "It's one of those game we will talk about for many, many years."
