Tallassee's Hit Squad wins World Series

On Saturday, Tallassee's own The Hit Squad 12u team won the USFA World Series held annually in Panama City Beach, Fla. The tournament consisted of 49 USFA travel teams from all over the U.S.
The Hit Squad's tournament started with pool play on Monday and Tuesday where the girls beat teams from Florida, Georgia and Tennessee 6-0, 8-0 and 10-0. Savannah Christian and Avary Lumpkin combined for two no-hitters and a one-hitter during these pool games.
The Hit Squad girls carried this undefeated pool play record into bracket play on Wednesday and were matched up against a tough team from Georgia called The Phenoms. Both teams could only manage three hits,but The Hit Squad prevailed 4-2. Next, the girls knocked off Jinx-Jacob 2-1 in an extra inning nailbiter. The third round of bracket play pitted The Hit Squad against the tournaments No. 1 seed from Arkansas, Nemesis. The Tallassee girls sent the Arkansas girls to the losers bracket winning easily 7-1.
The fourth round was another extra inning game against The Stars from Cleveland, Ohio where the Hit Squad girls came out on top 2-1. In the quarterfinals the Tallassee girls took down Xplosion in yet another extra inning game by a score of 5-4 winning on a walk off walk. The next round, the semis, matched The Hit Squad against the Central Florida Blazers. Lexi Love started things off right with a solo shot to centerfield. The girls won this one in extras as well by a score of 4-3.
The Hit Squad 12u team faced Southern Smash of Louisiana in the finals. This Smash team lost their first bracket game then rolled off 13 straight wins to make it to the finals. The Hit Squad dusted Southern Smash in the finals 12-1. Lexi Love hit her second dinger of the tourney in the first inning quickly showing the Smash that the Tallassee girls meant business.
The Hit Squad 12u team outscored their opponents in the tournament 60-12.
