Tallassee extends Holtville losing streak

By Gary Buchanan

Tallassee got back on the winning track Friday night with a 48-7 drubbing of Holtville.  The loss was the 27th straight defeat for the Bulldogs and dropped their record to 0-7 on the year.  Tallassee improved to 5-3 overall, 3-2 in region play.

Casey Baynes hit Jamarcus Miller for a 46-yard touchdown pass on Tallassee’s opening possession and the rout was on.  Brady Hancock added a four yard scoring run later in the first quarter.  Troy Nabors started the scoring in the second quarter with a 13 yard TD scamper.  Baynes added scoring runs of two yards and one yard to put Tallassee up 41-0 at the half.  Trent Cochran-Gill tallied a seven yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring for the Tigers.

Baynes finished the night 8-of-10 passing for 165 yards and a touchdown.  Nabors was the leading rusher with 121 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

In addition to his touchdown reception, Miller recovered a fumble and also had an interception on the night.  His effort on both sides of the ball earned him the Bright House Player of the Game honor.

Coach Mike Battles was understandably pleased with his team’s effort.  “We started fast and played well on defense.  We got to give everybody some playing time tonight.  Now we’ve got to get ready to play Leeds.”
