Tiger players receive all-state honors

Tallassee's 2017 baseball season was a good one. The Alabama Sports Writers Association took notice. Three THS players have been recognized with the annual all-state selections.

Seniors Dee Williams and Will Peters were first team picks. The duo were the 1-2 punch on the mound during Tallassee's quarterfinal run this past season. Williams was chosen as a utility player. Peters was one of four pitchers on the Class 4A team.

The tandem, according to head coach Adam Clayton, helped rewrite the Tallassee record book with their illustrious careers.

Williams broke Jeri Goodman's career strikeout record that stood since 1990 (259) with 261. Williams is sixth all-time at Tallassee with a 2.37 career ERA and fifth in wins (22). He is now the career leader for stolen bases with 86. The number surpasses Alfred Rivers long-standing mark of 81.

Peters tied the single-season mark for hits at THS (55) with Davis Knapp and Stephen Webster. He broke the record for career hits with 173 and runs scored with 134.

Baseball will continue for both players after high school. Williams is headed to Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia with fellow teammate Reid Whitaker. Peters will be at Mississippi College in Clinton next season.

Casey Baynes, a junior in '17, was an honorable mention by the ASWA at third base. Reeltown seniors Cal Burton (shortstop) and Cade Giddens (utility) were also honorable mention choices on the Class 2A team.
