Sidewalk Sale last year

Sidewalk Sale/Trade Day Saturday

By Leigh Anne Butler

The Tallassee downtown district is hosting a sidewalk sale this Saturday, Oct. 16 from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

“The sidewalk event started over a year ago in June and it’s been very successful,” said Jerry Cunningham, Tallassee Chamber of Commerce executive director.  “As long as the businesses and vendors continue to be successful, we will continue to do it every several months.”

“Things change over time and you try to find different things to do and different ways to approach things and now what we’re doing is working.  It’s really encouraging that people want to participate and seeing good crowds attend the event.  In the past year we’ve had over seven new businesses open in the downtown area.”

There will be over 50 vendors on hand selling goods and services as well as the following downtown businesses; Crafty Monkey, Dreamcatcher Comics, Fancy Pony Boutique, Grove Station, Linda’s, Restoration 49, Sistrunk, Talisi Falls Museum, Tallassee Jewelers, Tiger Paw, Tallassee Nutrition, The Dam Store and Urban Tails.

Three local restaurants, MaePop’s Barbecue, Snackolla and The Wharf Casual Seafood, will offer food.  “There will also be vendors that will have food items like cakes and pastries too,” Cunningham continued.

There will be an expanded children’s area.  “We’re going to have a little more to offer in the children’s area, which is sponsored by First Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church.”  Children can enjoy a bouncy house, basketball, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn and snocones.

“We are also going to have entertainment from local people. Jordan Cunningham has set the entertainment up and it’s going to be nicely done,” Cunningham explains.  “One of the groups from the high school will be there to sing and The Pointed Toe dance studio will have dancers performing.  We also have several local musical groups performing; The Sidewalk Singers, JoBu and Smoke and Mirrors.  The entertainment will start at 10:00.”
