Trio qualify to run as independents

Tallapoosa County Probate Judge Talmadge L. East is pleased to announce that three candidates for public office have fulfilled all of the minimum statutory requirements (Code of Alabama § 17-9-3) to be independent Tallapoosa County candidates in the upcoming November 2024 General Election.

The candidates who have qualified are:

1. Matilda Woodyard-Hamilton - Tallapoosa County School Board, District 1
2. Deana Henderson Mann - Tallapoosa County School Board, District 2
3. Eric Baker - Tallapoosa County School Board, District 2

Judge East remarked, "I am delighted to see individuals stepping forward to serve their community. It takes courage and dedication to run for public office, and I commend Ms. Mann, Mr. Baker, and Ms. Woodyard-Hamilton for their willingness to take on this important responsibility.

"By seeking public office, these candidates have shown a genuine commitment to improving our schools and communities as a whole. Their decision reflects an authentic desire to serve all Tallapoosa County residents."

Woodyard-Hamilton will face District 1 Democratic nominee Frederick Ford in the November election. Mann and Baker are both candidates for Tallapoosa County School Board, Place 2 and will face each other in November. There were no qualified Democratic or Republican candidates in District 2.
