The mayor and first lady-to-be, Johnny and Kimberly

Mayoral marriage set for this weekend

By Michael Butler

Move over Prince Harry and Meghan, here comes Johnny and Kimberly. Tallassee mayor Johnny Hammock is tying the knot with Kimberly Baird in July in Tuscaloosa.

The Saturday, July 14 wedding will be at 4 p.m. at the Northriver Yacht Club.

"I think if Kim and I could do it all over again, we probably would do a destination wedding with just our immediate family and have a big party when we get back," Hammock said. "It's a lot of planning. She works at PrimeSouth and I work for the City. Sometimes we feel like we don't have enough hours in the day. We're ready to be married and go on the honeymoon and get back."

The honeymoon will be in Costa Rica. Hammock has been out of the country. but it will be first time beyond the U.S. borders for his future bride.

"The employees at City Hall gave her a shower," he said. "Barbara (Garnett) did a flyer that said, 'Meet the First Lady.' She takes it well."

As for comparisons to a Royal Wedding, don't expect it.

"I didn't even watch the Royal Wedding," Hammock said. "I don't even have cable. I'm a cord cutter. I can't afford $170 for TV and internet."
