Barron promotion completes administrative changes

Staff Report

There is a changing of the guard within Tallassee City Schools. Recently, Tallassee High School principal Matt Coker and Southside Middle School principal Micah Cook announced their retirements from the system.

Chet Stewart will be assuming the duties as principal at THS. Tim Collier is taking over at Southside.

With Stewart's move from assistant principal to the high school's head position left a vacancy. Brooke Barron will fill that void, moving from her teaching job to assistant principal at the high school.

Barron is a 2004 graduate of Tallassee High. She was drum major for the Pride of Tallassee her senior year. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Auburn University.

Barron's career began as a math teacher at Opelika High School. While there she also served as flag line instructor with the Spirit of the South marching band.

In 2011, Barron took a mathematics teaching position at her alma mater. At THS, she has been the head of the Mathematics Department, auxiliary coordinator for The Pride of Tallassee marching band, Instructional Leader and District Instruction Coach. In 2017, she returned to Auburn to earn her certification in Instructional Leadership.

"I am excited to begin my journey as assistant principal for Tallassee High School," Barron said.

She and her husband Brad have two children, Brady and Brinley, who both attend Tallassee Elementary School.
