Had the pleasure of having a long chat last week
with a great local citizen of the Jordan area,
up here in northeast Elmore County, Warren Colley.
While we, as a rule, don’t consider our
little corner of the world the high crime district,
Warren was recently the victim of quite a loss
of property when a gang of five, it turned out,
broke into his home, stealing thousands of dollars
of his possessions. This gang later decided to
do another house in the Millbrook area. The lady
of the house, living alone, and asleep at the
time, awoke to discover five people ransacking
her home. It turned out that she was an ex-marine,
and slept with a 9 mm pistol under her pillow.
She got the drop on the one nearest to her and
the others fled out through the streets of Millbrook.
The Millbrook police finally arrived and took
the one the lady had the drop on into custody
and impounded the vehicle. None of those running
through the streets of Millbrook were ever apprehended.
It turned out that the group was from New York,
and some time later someone from New York showed
up, paid the impoundment fee, paid the bail for
the one the lady had caught, and they drove off
back to New York. None of these parasites were
ever heard from again. Warren’s opinion
of the professional ability of the Millbrook police
department is not one they would enjoy hearing.
Warren believes that someone in the area, with
the ability to “case the joints”,
so to speak, determines the vulnerability of the
home, i.e., if the husband and wife both work
through the day, if the kids are in school, burglar
alarms, guard dogs, etc., and provides a hit list
for the New York parasites. They in turn pay this
person a commission on the take. In Warren’s
case, his dog was poisoned. There have been five
homes in this area of the county that I know about
that have had a similar type break in. In all
cases, the husband and wife were away at work,
the kids were in school or grown and gone. One
of the more detestable forms of parasitism is
the thief. As far as I know, no arrests, other
than the one the lady in Millbrook held for the
police to arrive, have ever been made. I have
no idea if the county sheriff’s department
ever arrested anyone on the five burglaries in
this area. I would love to be wrong on this one.
Oh by the way, one of the results of Warren’s
victimization was that his home became virtually
uninsurable!

I still haven’t heard from Barry Mask, as
to why he voted to table the Alabama Constitutional
Convention resolution for the purpose of revising
the antiquated state constitution. It was only
a resolution, to allow the people of the state
to say yes or no on calling one. Barry, I ask
the question again: Are the people of Alabama
incapable of making a wise choice in that regard?

It was sickening to be made aware of the low life
we still have in the area recently when the sign
identifying the cemetery across from Cotton’s
BarBeQue was defaced with the n--- word! You mistakenly
think sometimes, that being fifty years down the
road from the old racial animosities, such a neanderthal
act is no longer a likely event. I can’t
believe the people who think such an idiotic act
is worth doing spend much time in Bible study.

When the headlines read: “Dictator’s
son declared winner in Togo election”, you
just get the warm fuzzies about the legitimacy
of the election results, don’t you?

This has been a rough winter to sell global warming!

There are at least 20 cemeteries scattered across
Europe with over 104,000 of our country’s
military buried in them. This is the only territory
we occupied in over an hundred years of successfully
preventing the entire continent from speaking
German. It therefore grieves me sorely to have
Obama groveling and apologizing to the nations
of the world for our sins. We are not a perfect
country. But we have helped many people, at great
cost in money and life, without a great deal of
gratitude.

The birthdays, of which I am aware, that are coming
up this week are those of: Bobby Joe Orr on the
11th, and Jinnene Griffith on the 13th. Happy
birthday to each of you! Birthdays are a significant
checkpoint in a life. And as you acquire the years,
an acknowledgement of your mortality and preparation
for eternity becomes evermore appropriate. If
you know of a birthday or an anniversary you wish
to recognize, please let me know a couple of weeks
in advance.
