Saluting our seniors

By Michael Butler

May has arrived which means graduation is near. Each year on the Tallassee Times and WTLS, we highlight some of our high school graduates. This year is no exception.

This happens to be the 25th edition of the "Senior Salute." Some of the grads from that first class are now sending the next generation of students through the halls of Tallassee High School .

The promotion began as a radio-only feature on WTLS in 2000. Much has changed with the radio in those two plus decades. Now you can listen to this daily feaure on three frequencies, not just the original dial position of 1300 AM. The station is also on 94.7 FM and 106.9 FM, as well as the internet at www.1300wtls.com.

The on-line promotion through Tallassee Times began in 2009.

You will see a list of some of the seniors each week right here on the Times website. Those 12th graders will give a brief bio of themselves with their future plans. Each can be heard at 7:15 weekday mornings during the "Wake-Up Call" on WTLS.

This year, you will also see a daily "Senior Spotlight" on the WTLS and Tallassee Times Facebook pages.

The promotion runs from May 6-24.

A big thanks goes out to Christina Baker at Tallassee High School who helps us line up these recordings each year. And of course, we thank our great sponsors.

We wish the entire Class of 2024 all the best in their future endeavors.
